Emilie St-Hilaire is a multidisciplinary artist and researcher of settler ancestry. She grew up on Treaty 1 territory, in Winnipeg’s francophone neighbourhood of Saint-Boniface. 

​

Emilie's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Her recent work explores artificial bodies and how we connect with these figures as more than non-human. 

 

Emilie has recently received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts, the Manitoba Arts Council, the Winnipeg Arts Council and Francofonds, among others.

 

Emilie earned a BFA Honours at the University of Manitoba, an MFA at the University of Alberta, and a PhD from Concordia University in Montreal. Her PhD dissertation examined the phenomenon of reborn dolls from a feminist perspective. Her research has been cited in The Telegraph (UK), The Guardian (US), Le Temps (Switzerland), Gehirn & Geist (Germany), La Presse (Québec), Cosmopolitan (US), NPR and CBC, among others. Emilie recently published articles on reborn dolls in The American Journal of Play and The Palgrave Handbook on Parenting in Popular Culture.

Emilie St-Hilaire est une artiste multidisciplinaire et chercheuse descendante de colons européens. Elle a grandi sur le territoire du Traité no. 1, dans le quartier francophone de Saint-Boniface.

 

Le travail d’Emilie a été exposé nationalement et internationalement. Ses œuvres récentes explorent les corps artificiels et comment nous sommes connectés à ces figures plus qu’humaines.

Emilie est récipiendaire de bourses du Conseil des arts du Canada, du Conseil des arts du Manitoba, du Conseil des arts de Winnipeg et de Francofonds, entres autres. 

 

Emilie a complété un BFA avec distinction à l’université du Manitoba, un MFA à l’université de l’Alberta et un doctorat à l’université Concordia à Montréal. Sa thèse de doctorat examinait le phénomène des poupées reborn à travers une perspective féministe. Sa recherche a été citée dans The Telegraph (UK), The Guardian (US), Le Temps (Suisse), Gehirn & Geist (Allemagne), La Presse (Québec), Cosmopolitan (US), NPR et Radio-Canada, entre autres.
