This project was undertaken at Plug In Institute of Contemporary Art in Winnipeg during a Summer Residency in 2011. The first part of this project required the digital scanning and archiving of several years worth of my sketchbooks, notepads and journals.
With this work I explored new ways of disseminating the small works of art utilizing new media streams and public spaces. The project has four components: gallery installation (at Plug In ICA), online presentation (emiliest.com), twitter feed (_emiliest) and small sticker 'tags' spread out over urban areas in different cities and countries (Winnipeg, Montreal, Paris and Singapore thus far).
The overabundance of these documents, which previously existed in an all but forgotten state, are reincarnated as they are shared via the web, public spaces and the gallery. These small glimpses thoughtful, humorous, ineffable and ridiculous have now been transmitted to countless locations to be processed, observed, consumed and recycled.
Fleeting ideas pop into existence and disappear quickly and mysteriously. By pushing this archive of inspiration out into the world it is given a new course of existence, the impact and effects of which cannot be measured, a fact consistent with the intangible nature of the content.
Now tweeting the #mediamories project: art, thoughts, doodles, ideas, quotes, poems, word plays, etc. Sharing the ineffable and the laughable with the unknown.
